The Effects of Israel - Hamas War on Academia in Europe and North America

Monday, March 18, 19:00 Central European Time

October 7, 2023, attacks of Hamas on Israel created chaos in academic institutions around the world. The management of leading universities face daily challenges wellbeing of students, disturbances on campuses, and intervention of politics in academic research. Many leading universities are taking measures to allow all students to feel secure and supported while pursuing their academic journeys. However, this is not the case in all universities.

We invite you to our online event to discuss the situation on campuses in Europe and North America ways we can support the students and academic professionals and how together we can combat antisemitism.

The Zoom link for the event will be sent before the event after registration.

Speakers:

Douglas Hauer - Keynote speaker, Partner at Mintz Levin, a leading U.S law firm. Hauer focuses on immigration and corporate law as well as crisis management. Hauer serves as an adjunct professor of Professional Responsibility, Jewish Law at Boston University.

Nina Goldfarb - Student at Lauder Business School, Vienna

Nina will talk about the situation in Jewish Universities and what is the best way for us to expose and explain the situation in Israel to different kinds of students (from different religions).

Also, Nina will share about her childhood friend Noa Argamani and her partner Avinatan Or who are held hostage by Hamas, how we use the social media platform to tell her story, and why we feel that Noa is one of Hamas’ bargaining chips.

Maya Parizer - Survivor of the Nova Massacre.

Asaf Vered - Student at the Hague University of Applied Sciences

Asaf will talk about the political activism of students of both sides. The Hague caught the attention of the public worldwide with the genocide court case against Israel brought by South Africa.

Jahne Nicolaisen - Political Counseling and Political Education, Mideast Freedom Forum Berlin (MFFB)

Jahne would talk about ''Networks and Strategies Against Antisemitism in German Universities''. He would start with a broad overview of relevant actors in the fight against antisemitism and recent efforts to establish networks between them. And then he would deliver some thoughts on which strategies are necessary now in German Universities.

Moderator-Maya Wolffberg, Coordinator of Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism and Cross-Organizational Projects, ICE - Israeli Community Europe.

We are looking forward to seeing you
